Jesus has explained the foot washing and commanded love; today those words reveal the kind of Lord He is.

Watch the companion video, then continue reading to examine the biblical testimony in its full context.
John deliberately places Jesus’ authority beside His humility. He knows the Father has given all things into His hands, yet those hands take a towel and wash feet.
The Lord Who Stoops.
Jesus calls Himself Teacher and Lord and says His disciples are right to do so. Service does not cancel His authority; it reveals how He chooses to exercise it.
The One Who Cleanses.
Peter must allow Jesus to wash him. The scene therefore reveals more than an ethical model. Jesus is the One from whom the disciple must first receive cleansing.
Love With a Defined Shape.
Jesus does not leave love as a vague feeling. “As I have loved you” gives it a visible form—self-giving, humble, purposeful, and directed toward the good of others.
Authority and Love Together.
The passage refuses to separate greatness from service. Jesus’ identity makes the action more striking: the One who rightly receives the title Lord takes the servant’s place and commands His people to follow that pattern.
Tomorrow, face the assumption that true greatness must keep its distance from lowly service.
